Do the Twist – Spiralize your veggies!

spiralizer11Spiralizers are very trendy right now and we’ve certainly jumped on the spiralizing bandwagon! Basically, we’re obsessed. Spiralizing has so many benefits for your health and it’s incredible easy.

First of all, what is spiralizing? Well, it’s using a spiralizer to turn vegetables into delicious noodle-like strands. It’s an amazing substitute for pasta, and an ingenious alternative to wheat pasta for those of us with gluten allergies.

Spiralized veggies are also perfect for summer! Not only do you get to enjoy some of that beautiful local produce, but using vegetables as noodles lightens up any meal. This is ideal for those nights when you don’t want a heavy meal of pasta.

It’s still got all of the delicious taste though! Use your spiralizer with a variety of firm fruits and vegetables such as sweet potatoes, potatoes, beets, carrots, cucumbers, apples, bell peppers, and of course the classic spiralizing veggie – zucchini. They create perfect vegetable noodles for pasta dishes, salads, and stir fries! You can also spiralize an apple to add to your oatmeal in the morning or spiralize some bell peppers for a delicious omelette. Or, if you’re looking for a treat, try deep frying some potato spirals for perfectly crispy shoestring fries.

When you’re not deep-frying your veggies, spiralizing is a quick and easy way to eat healthy! It’s also a great way to incorporate more vegetables into your diet. This low-carb option is great for those who are trying to manage their weight. For instance, one cup of cooked spaghetti has about 40 carbs and 220 calories compared to one cup of zucchini noodles with about 40 calories and less than 10 carbs per cup. They are also gluten free, paleo, vegan, grain-free and delicious!

The spiralizer is probably our favourite new addition to our kitchens at home and our gadget section here at the store. Now, we’re not saying this is the same as a buttery bowl of tortellini, but this gadget makes delicious meals. Add any sauce, meat or cheese and you’ve got a quick, healthy and delicious meal!
